We found quite a bit of gold - anyone can with a bit of patience.
I noticed that nearly everyone on the tour buses was frustrated and didn't find as much gold or just stopped panning. The staff members are happy to assist those who don't understand the process. People who said they got dirty just don't know what they are doing. Two nice things about panning at El Dorado: warm water in the boxes and seats. You were given a bag of dirt (about a cup and a half) and a pan. All of the staff members were very friendly and helpful. The demonstration of how the sluice box works was interesting as well as the panning demonstrations. It was a bit silly but it was nice that they put so much effort into the train, the entertainment, and the demonstrations along the way (permafrost tunnel, miner's house, etc). The El Dorado Gold Mine was a really fun place to spend a couple of hours learning about gold mining.
